Status of Covid-19 Vaccine Clinical Trials

History will probably remember these last couple of months as the most painful point of the entire pandemic. But hope is on the horizon. Although we have a long recovery in front of us, the world has achieved some significant victories against the virus in the form of new tests, treatments, and vaccines, driven by the power of collaboration across the industry. ClinTex believe that new tools like the CTi platform will drive clinical data collaboration, and will soon begin bending the curve in a big way,  replicating the speed of vaccines development for all new medicines development across all illnesses.

Vaccines typically require years of research and testing before reaching the clinic, but in 2020, scientists embarked on a race to produce safe and effective coronavirus vaccines in record time. Researchers are currently testing 67 vaccines in clinical trials on humans, and 20 have reached the final stages of testing. At least 89 preclinical vaccines are under active investigation in animals.

Number of Ongoing Clinical Trials

The leading vaccines have already been approved fully or for emergency use in one or more countries. More approvals are expected over the coming months. Given the enormous impact of COVID-19, more than one vaccine will be likely needed to end the pandemic.

Supply will be a problem in the beginning, so people with the highest risk of developing COVID-19 will normally be prioritized to receive the vaccine first.

Here’s a rundown of the leading COVID-19 vaccines with details about their approval status, and availability.
